How much do beginner models get paid when starting out in the entertainment industry?

Starting out as a new face model? Beginner models can make tons of money when starting however, it is a slippery slope just as in anything.

Many people want to begin as a model for a variety of reasons. Some of it is to get paid large sums of money, some of that is for fame and some is just for the passion of the industry. What many models don’t realize is that a large percentage of modeling is done by freelance talent.

A freelance model is one that obtains jobs and gigs sporadically and uses it as a side hustle to make extra money. At Latitude Talent Studios, our service is to help new models and actors obtain the tools necessary to find modeling agencies, talent agencies and casting opportunities and to start or build their experience in the entertainment business; we’re not an agency. While we don’t employ models, we have seen many talent attend auditions with pay rate is high as $8,000+ and more just as a beginner model. However we have also seen models not make any money when starting out, or just make a couple hundred dollars on a booked casting call. That’s not very bad for a couple hours worth of work!

Since the industry for models and actors is so very competitive, and with a major change in advertising, focusing on digital and social media, the pay rate for beginner models is much lower than it was in the 1970s and 1980s when modeling was primarily done for magazine and print advertising. Many models could make $10,000 a day or more now that is more a fantasy than anything else.

New models need to understand that starting in this business you need to invest in quality materials to be taken seriously. Just like anything else you have to dedicate time and energy into being successful.

If you’re looking to start out and become a model, many talents think that looking to find a modeling agency is there only objective. This is not the case. In fact less than 5% an actual models are assigned to a modeling agency since typically they are only reserved for editorial talent.
